If you’re a blerd and you haven’t yet ventured down to the DMV for some epic blerdy fun, then you are definitely missing out.  I headed down to Blerdcon 2018  held at the Hyatt Regency in Crystal City with my two Jr. Correspondents in tow to check out the festivities and I definitely wasn’t disappointed. While the midnight to ’round dawn event schedule was definitely designed for the 18+ crew, we arrived Saturday afternoon just in time for an array of family-friendly fun. Highlights of the event included cosplay contests, kid-friendly activities, more cool cosplay, dope vendors, and panels that were both blerd centered and informative at the same time.

The highlight of our visit was a panel titled “Let’s Make an Anime” presented by Emmy winning professional animater Allyssa A Lewis.  The panel was very well presented.  We learned a lot about the process of stop-action animation, the entire pipeline of putting together an animated project for a network and everything in between.  Allyssa was down to earth, knowledgeable, and she made the panel interesting for blerds and prospective animators of all ages. Allyssa is perhaps best known for her work on Archer.

Overall, Blerdcon was well worth its $50 ticket price with an event carefully curated for any type of Blerd. We look forward to attending Blerdcon in the future and foresee it becoming a blerd tradition for years to come.
