Wham! Like all good epics, Psi-Lords #1, drop us smack dab into the middle of a budding epos. The trope is well served here as the script by Fred Van Lente gets the action started from the jump.
We are introduced individually to four super-powered beings who we come to know as the titular characters. As the story unfolds, they find themselves locked into prison cells and are being contacted apparently by a telepathic disembodied voice giving insights and cryptic comments. Displaying their vast powers, the four protagonists escape their captors with the assistance of this voice.
Though they have never met before, they quickly come together to try and find answers regarding their captivity but discover there are even larger questions that surpass their personal queries. This is a terrific introductory first issue to what seems to be a much larger story. Van Lente blends brutally violent action with introspective missives that breathe well. The lush, delicious art by Renato Guedes combines a soft, almost dream-like color scheme with smart inspired camera angles. This is enjoyable on
many levels.
The book will be released on June 12th.
